When and where will MUNiSC be taking place?
MUNiSC 2021 will take place from March 5th to 7th, 2021. Please note that the conference will be virtual this year.
How many committees does MUNiSC have?
MUNiSC currently has nine committees: General Assembly I, General Assembly II, Disarmament Commission, Economic and Social Council, Human Rights Council, Security Council, Advisory Panel, the International Court of Justice, and the World Health Organization.
What is the theme for this year’s conference?
The theme for this year’s conference is “Fostering Inclusivity in an Age of Exclusivity.”

How many schools and delegates are participating this year?
Over 350 delegates and 25+ schools will be participating in MUNiSC 2020.
Is MUNiSC a THIMUN affiliate?
MUNiSC is NOT a THIMUN affiliate; however, MUNiSC does follow the THIMUN debate format, with some differences. All delegations that represent non-governmental organizations (NGOs) are not allowed to vote, and not all MUN motions and points are entertained in MUNiSC. In addition, only one follow-up Point of Information is allowed.
Can delegates participate individually? Do the delegates have to be associated with a school in order to participate in MUNiSC?
Yes; MUNiSC 2021 will accept individual applicants to participate as individual delegates. Those who wish to participate should fill out the individual delegate application form.
How can schools apply for delegations?
Schools can apply for delegations by filling out the interest form that is on the MUNiSC website. All schools that wish to attend MUNiSC should fill out their minimum and maximum number of students that can participate. Also, any schools that wish to have delegations from AP or SC should specify their interested committee(s) in the interest form. However, specifying does not guarantee position(s) in the following committee(s).
Does ISQ issue a Fapiao?
No. As a non-profit organization, ISQ is not able to issue fapiaos. We are able to issue an invoice once payment has been received if the advisor asks for it specifically.
Before the Conference
How much do I have to pay for the conference?
MUNiSC 2021 will take place virtually and it will be free for all participants.
How do I apply for student officer positions?
Anyone who is interested in applying for a student officer position must fill out the chair application form that is on the website. The deadlines for all the student officer positions for MUNiSC 2020 is September 22nd.
How do I apply for media positions?
Applications for MUNiSCOOP (MUNiSC Newspaper) are due January 15th, 2021. Students interested are welcome to apply by filling in the application found on https://munisc.isqchina.com/muniscoop/ and sending it to email@example.com.
Do schools have to stay at the hotel where the conference is to be held?
Schools coming from outside of Qingdao are recommended to stay at the Shangri-La hotel, but they are not required to do so.
During the Conference
What should I wear on the day of the conference?
All participants have to dress up professionally and formally.
Will MUNiSC be providing lunch for the participants?
MUNiSC will not be providing any lunch meals for the participants.
Then where can we get lunch?
The hotel provides lunch meals that are roughly 20-30 RMB, but if the participants want to choose from a wide range of food choices, a mall next to the hotel has a plenty of restaurants that could satisfy the participants.
Does MUNiSC hold a party on the first day of the conference?
We would like to invite you to this year’s MUNiSC Bash! MUNiSC Bash, which normally takes place on Thursday night, is a party which all delegates and directors can come and enjoy a free buffet, play interactive games, and watch jaw-dropping dance performances. MUNiSC Bash will end at around 9 PM.
How do we get to the hotel from the train station or the airport?
At a flat rate of 600 RMB, MUNiSC will provide for one round trip between the conference venue and the train station or the airport for each delegation. Staff members will be waiting for schools either at the train station or at the airport before the schools arrive. However, if, for any reasons, the staff members are not present, the International School of Qingdao will take responsibility in providing transportation to the conference venue for the respective schools.
Do I have to make an opening speech? If so, how long should my opening speech be?
All delegates should prepare to make an opening speech on Thursday morning within their own forum. Opening speeches are an opportunity for each delegation to emphasize their concerns about current global issues and to indicate the topic that will be their focus during the conference. Speech lengths will be limited to three minutes for the Advisory Panel (AP), two minutes for the Security Council (SC) and one minute for all other forums.
*Note: Please print or write the opening speeches on paper since the use of electronics is permitted only during the lobbying session.
What happens if I get injured or feel uncomfortable during the conference? Will the conference hall have nurses to give necessary treatments?
Although we won’t have a nurse, there will be a first aid kit in the Approval Panel (directors’ room). A municipal hospital is located near the Shangri-La hotel if needed.
Are we allowed to use computers and other electronic devices during the conference?
The use of computers and other electronic devices are permitted only during lobbying-merging session. The usage of computers and other electronic devices is strictly prohibited during the debate session. If a delegate is caught using electronic devices without any permission from the chairs, the chairs and the admin staffs will automatically confiscate the devices and notify the student’s director.
If a delegate wants to know the definitions of any terms in the resolution, please either use a paper dictionary or ask the main-submitter through notes.
How many clauses are necessary to pass a resolution?
In MUNiSC 2020, there has to be at least 4 clauses in order for a resolution to pass.
How many co-submitter signatures should the main submitter receive?
This depends on the size of the committee. Further notices about co-submitter signatures will be made by the committee chairs during the conference.
How many resolutions/action plans are typically debated in each committee?
The number also depends on the size of the committee. In bigger committees, at least 6 and at most 8 resolutions should be debated. In smaller committees that debate on a clause-by-clause basis, about 4 resolutions should be debated.
Which motions and points are used in MUNiSC?
Delegates are allowed to use the following motions: Motion to suspend the meeting, Motion to move into the previous question, and Motion to divide the house.
Delegates are allowed to use the following points: Point of Information to the Chair, Point of Information (to a delegate, with follow-ups to the first degree), Point of Order, Point of Personal Privilege, Point of Parliamentary Inquiry and Point of Clarification.
***Because MUNiSC is not an affiliate of THIMUN, there is a limit to the usage of points and motions (only the usage of the aforementioned points and motions are permitted)
Are we allowed to submit amendments to the second degree?
Yes, delegates are permitted to submit amendments to the second degree during time against the amendment. Please keep in mind that even if an amendment to the second degree passes, the amendment to the first degree will still be debated. If the amendment to the first degree fails, then the passed amendment to the second degree fails too. In the Advisory Panel, however, if an amendment to the second degree passes, the amendment to the first degree passes as well.
MUNiSC will be my first conference. What happens if I am blank on MUN in general?

Is the International School of Qingdao responsible for planning touring activities for participating Schools?
The International School of Qingdao is not responsible for planning touring activities for participating schools. However, please refer to the “Touring Qingdao” tab for some information on touring Qingdao if schools want to tour Qingdao individually.
